GCG Snag That Swag Giveaway #2

It's time folks!   The second Gap Creek Gourmet Snag That Swag Giveaway is coming to you courtesy of Upcountry Provisions, opening any day now in Travelers Rest!  The lucky winner of this giveaway will receive a travel mug, a shopping bag (reduce/reuse!), and lunch (up to $10 value) at the Bakery and Bistro!  Very awesome, right?  If you're an out-of-towner, I'll ship for this one!

Owners Steve and Cheryl and their staff served up delicious sandwiches on scratch made savory breads, fresh veggie succotash, extraordinary Cesar salad, and freaking fabulous artisan desserts. Since Cheryl is one of the Valley Girls, our families were some of the lucky few to be invited to sample their fare on Monday night.  There's a giant wooden communal table in the dining area which we all just fell in love with immediately. It's destined to be my favorite new hangout as soon as the doors are officially open. Their lunch menu (via website) includes a hummus plate with veggies and flatbread, a meat or cheese plate, salads, soups, sandwiches and even sushi!  I'll keep you posted.  Opening day should be sometime late this week or early next.  Stop in to hang out with me!

Okay, the giveaway rules.  1) Comment on this post here ON THE BLOG (not Facebook).  I want you to tell me about your favorite sandwich of all time. Was it your grandfather's fried bologna and cheese?  A veggie sub with smokey cheese from Publix? (wait...those are mine...) I want to hear it!  2) Share this post with your  friends on your Facebook page! I'm going to randomly choose a winner next Tuesday from the blog comments so post away.

Upcountry Provisions is on Facebook, so make sure you friend them, too!  Here.

A corned beef sandwich from a local irish bar and pub back in Michigan. I once smuggled one onto an airplane for my hubby to try when I landed.

Okay, here's mine: When my children were small my hubby and I had a rare opportunity for trip to San Diego - our first there and sans children. (Actually a business trip for me, but Mr. J. was able to arrange the time off to tag along.
We discovered the lovely Cabrillo Point light house there...and decided on one of our free days to go back there for a picnic. (What a view!)We stopped at a little marina sandwich shop along the water near our hotel to grab some portable food. Wow... it was one of those wonderful happy accidents. Those were sandwiches we are still talking about today. Mine was on hearty sourdough bread piled high with turkey, shaved purple onion, avocado, fresh leaf lettuce and a spicy mayo (sammie #7 it was!). Mmmmmm....I can still taste it.

My favorite sandwich is always a cuban, mmmmm, Best one I ever had was at La Olympia in Tarpon Springs, FL, home of the original cuban, some say. It is a long standing competition between Miami and Tarpon Springs...wonder why no one ever credits Cuba? LoL! Anyways, pork was slow roasted and shredded, sweet ham, swiss ,pickles and that mustard mayo mix spread on, then finally the fresh crusty cuban bread was pressed on a hot grill...wow, amazing! AND had it served with black beans and rice and sweet fried plantains. I was in heaven.

So, my husband and I were newlyweds and in New York City visiting his friend, Gianni, that he knew from his days living in California... Gianni said "you have to come with me to Hoboken to get this sandwich, they only sell them on Tuesdays." We were at his mercy because we didn't have a car, so said "okay". We were starving by this point and weren't that thrilled with having to go all the way to Hoboken to get lunch. We pull up to this crummy little brick building on a crappy side-street in the worst part of Hoboken and there is a line wrapped around the building. Now I am thinking "hmm, this could be good". Jon and I stayed in the truck with Gianni's insane pit bull, Hero, and awaited our food fate. Out it came, 3 giant paper-rolled sandwiches being cradled in Gianni's giant lunch grabbers (hands). He passed them around and they smelled soooo good! Upon opening the paper I was thrilled to behold a foot-long fresh baked french roll, stuffed with slow-roasted beef (rare prime rib) and that fresh mozzarella, the kind you can only get in Italian-laden areas of the north. Real Au Jus was drizzled over the entire thing and it is was MAGNIFICENT! We savored every bite and only stopped eating long enough to repeatedly exclaim "oh my GOD this is SO GOOD!"

I'd have to say that I never met a Reuben I didn't like. I have loved sour kraut since I was a child but had never tried a Reuben until becoming an adult but I'd have to say that it's a sandwich that can't be beaten. Love it!
