Last night was the United Way Hands On Greenville Piggy Bank Auction at Huguenot Mill in Downtown Greenville. The gang was all there to support our friend and local artist Susan Sorrell whose pig ended up selling for $350 in the live auction!
Hands On Greenville helps connect volunteers with more than 300 service organizations. I've been both a HOG volunteer and a receiving organization. Rebecca and her staff rock!
Here's the deal: artists decorate piggy banks (made and donated by Bill Davis of Thomas Creek Brewery). The crazy oinkers are then auctioned off in a silent auction or are included in themed gift baskets which go to the highest bidder in a live auction that closes out the evening.
Local restaurants catered the event including Takosushi (which, if you follow the blog, you know is my new favorite hangout), Giatu, and Smoke on the Water. Freshman baker Jess Winters of Cake My Day was there debuting her cupcake creations. Her chocolate chip cupcake was stupendous! Way to go Jess.
It was great to see Suzanne Vitti and her husband (both pig artists this year), Brandon (the Starbucks coffee shop guy and pig artist) and to meet his date Jennifer (who had an amazing outfit on that I totally wanted to steal), Liz Daly (pig artist) and her husband Jay, Jennifer DeWitt was in the house and event paparazzi Michelle Getz of Getz Creative Photography was there snapping shots. I loved seeing my old TRAM intern Brooke May, who now works for Hands on Greenville and I caught up with fellow T.R. girl Lindsay McPhail.
Super cool night. Thank you Hands on Greenville and volunteers for all you do to provide the volunteer backbone in our nonprofit community.
