A quick lunch at Papi's Tacos

Yesterday, I grabbed my friend Tim from Discover Upcountry and we headed down to the banks of the Reedy River to check out Table 301's new taco joint, Papi's Tacos.  The small restaurant, the group describes as its "stationary taco truck" has a simple menu of authentic Mexican tacos, tortas, salsas and dips.  I tried their housemade Fresca drinks, one of which, tasted like Christmas in a cup (YUM!) and the other was some sort of brown Tamarind drink (no. Just no.). We ordered up six tacos and a selection of salsas and headed to our table.
The fish taco here is very good.  I read somewhere that the key to a good fish taco is texture, the perfect balance of crispy, crunch, softness of the tortilla, silkiness of the fish. This one really is a party in your mouth with fried fish, cole slaw, pico de gallo, cilantro, and fresh diced cucumbers. One of the better fish tacos in town.  The Al Pastor with shaved pork, cilantro, onions and pineapple is also a must.

Papi's Fun Fact:  The man behind the magic, Jorge "Papi" Baralles,  has been with Table 301 since Soby's first opened in 1997. Now he's in the Papi's kitchen whipping up his family recipes for Greenville's hungry masses.

If you're looking for a quick, tasty lunch, this is your place. Be sure to try the Peanut Salsa! Papi's is located at 300 River Street below The Lazy Goat.
